Description

Tallinna Toidupank (Tallinn Food Bank) is a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing food waste and supporting people in need across Estonia. By collecting surplus food from supermarkets, producers, and farms, Toidupank ensures that quality food reaches families and individuals facing food insecurity. Work at Toidupank happens during two shifts - day shift and evening shift. Day time is 9.30-16.30, evening 15.00-23.00. In Toidupank we have a certain routine in our daily tasks, but it often happens that we do have some more chaotic days in order to get our work done. The different roles of a volunteer at Toidupank: The biggest helping role is to put together foodpacks and give them out to the ones in need. Those who own a drivers license can drive around the town to pick up donations and goods from stores and organisations. It is also a task to drive to people’s homes and give them the food packs directly.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The accommodation costs are covered. Volunteer will live in a shared flat equipped with all the necessary utilities for comfortable living. The flat will be located not far from the activities place. Each month volunteer’s receive pocket and food money. The transportation from home country to Estonia and back will be covered according to the distance calculator of Erasmus+ program. The local transport card will be provided.

Training during the activity

The volunteer will have an on-arrival and mid-term training provided by the Estonian National Agency. Every 10 weeks a meeting with all the volunteers and coordinators will take place in different parts of Estonia to evaluate the progress of the volunteering projects, to set goals, socialize and discover new locations in Estonia.

Participant profile

We welcome all candidates, regardless of their background, to develop our organization by meeting different challenges and providing young people with possibilities to be valued members of our organisation. Our experience shows that it does not matter if the volunteer has had any previous contact with the area of special needs. We prefer volunteers who are interested in working with people and are not afraid of handling large quantities of donated food and delivering them. 18-30 years old.
