Activity description

We teach people (children, youth, adults) to see the world in a wider picture – and a foreigner volunteer can contribute to this. Our main goal of volunteer’s engagement is to benefit from the continuous presence of a non-Czech speaker which should encourage the motivation of people to learn English and other languages. Main contribution of the volunteer will then be his/her active participation in nonformal and may be formal activities. The volunteer can take part in games and group activities, be with children, help with the NGO management, administration, organise events for the public and for the parents. At this moment we look for volunteer who will help with photo and video gallery, social media, articles, dissemination, publicity etc. He/she will also be encouraged to run his/her own workshop, hobby club etc. according to his/her interest. During summer holidays, volunteers can help with summer camps, summer and preparation of the new school year.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The volunteer will have (shared) bedroom in a house in town of Tisnov. This house will be shared with other volunteers, together they will use the kitchen and bathroom. Good internet connection is provided. The volunteer will arrange meal in the morning, in the evening and during weekends. Lunch on week days can be served in a school canteen, if interested. There are many shops in Tišnov. Since Tišnov is a small town, it is easy to pass in on foot. If the volunteer shows interest, a bicycle can be provided. There is good train connection to the city of Brno.

Training during the activity

The volunteer will be offered Czech/English lessons with an experienced lector, with learning about czech culture. he/she can join all the training connected to the ESC programme. Also if they are interested, they can visit training, short time courses and seminars with other members of the NGO. During the stay in the NGO he/she will improve communication, learning and language skills. They will experience many different games and learning methods, may be also innovative educational approaches (Montessori, Democratic), and will be able to make own opinion about the innovative learning.

Participant profile

The volunteer can be anyone who has interest in work in NGO with children, youth and adults (outdoor physical activities during all seasons, workshops, clubs) and is flexible and adaptive (the children can be sometimes noisy and very active). Open-mindedness, playfulness and sense of humour are appreciated as well as a some level of spoken english. We do not require any specific education. We look for a person interested in media, social media, dissemination, photo and video presentations. We prefer a person who can stay for a longer time, at least 5 months.
