Descrizione dell'attività

Do you love nature and are you interested in learning about nature conservation? Join our unique conservation project on the Danube river! Our project is for those who are not affraid to get their hands dirty - helping with practical nature conservation on the last large river islands on the Danube. This is the flagship site of BROZ managed to preserve this unique and fast-disappearing ecosystem. Day-to-day activities include working with farm animals, doing small crafts, chatting with and welcoming visitors, helping with school excursions and the camping site and doing field surveys based on your interest and knowleadge. The environment on our farm, where you will be based offers many opportunities to get involved in and to implement your own ideas. The farm is located in Veľký Lel, close to the city of Komárno in the south of Slovakia in close proximity to the island of Velky Lel. In 2020 we will host our 2nd EVS project in Velky Lel, be a part of it!

Alloggio, vitto e trasporto

The volunteers will live on the farm - a 2-bedroom flat will be provided in the farmhouse. The farm is a busy workplace, especially during the season spring-autumn (BROZ staff, school excursions, tourists, visitors), so a potential volunteer should keep this in mind. Food will be arranged by volunteers (with the possibility to order lunch form a restaurant in Komárno). There is a small local grocery shop and a bigger food store in the nearby village Zlatná na Ostrove. Large supermarket is in Komárno (10 km). Volunteers will have bicycles for transport and can use the organisation´s cars.

Formazione durante l'attività

We will organise an into weekend - introducing BROZ, our work & activites, tour of the island with an explanation of the conservation activites, ecosystems, local context. The volunteers will also take slovak language lessons with a local teacher. Voluneers will use soft skills during communication with visitors and children during guided excursions. Volunteers will be trained for any technical knowledge needed for practical nature conservation in the field (building grazing fences, monitoring invasive plant species with a GPS, bird monitoring) by BROZ staff.

Profilo del partecipante

Ideally we prefer "slavic" or hungarian speaking volunteers with knowledge of English. Nature-lover, communicative, good with kids, not affraid to take on a challenge. Someone looking to experience life on a farm, in village setting (although good train connection to cities). Interensted in conservation & education. Horse-riding or horse-care experience is welcome. Technical type will have opportunities to put into practice, but this skill is not necessary. We are looking for independent, motivated people with a positive attitude, who can suggest improvements & can put own ideas into practice.
