Kids in Action 7 - Daycare center for people with mental disabilities

Activity description

Kids in Action 7-United in Solidarity ESC volunteering project will host 8 volunteers who will work in 10 organizations in and around the town of Škofja Loka, Slovenia between August 2020 and August 2021. We still look for 1 MALE volunteer, who would mainly assist at the work of Day Care Center for People with Mental Issues (ŠENT). Šent offers their users the opportunity to improve their daily social skills, a place, where they can talk freely, express their concerns, receive support, learn new things, and at the same time learn to live a full life. Chosen volunteer will attend the program and assist staff at daily program , which consist of rehabilitation (social skills training, interaction and communication...), educational (languages, multimedia...), creative (music, painting) workshops, leisure activities (social and sports games...),excursions, holidays, hikes, visits to exhibitions, shows.Info: https://www.edocr.com/v/dpynkrpj/voukvouk/Infoletter-KiA-7-Slovenia

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The volunteer will be accommodated together with other volunteers of the project in a furnished apartment with WiFi on the main square of Škofja Loka, old historical town with about 13000 inhabitants, located 25 km NW from Ljubljana. Each volunteer will stay in a single bedroom with shared cooking, washing, laundry, and social facilities. The volunteer will cook by himself/herself, monthly food allowance will be provided (180 €). He/she will be also entitled to receive a monthly allowance of 120 €. Bike and tickets for public transportation (if needed) will be provided.

Training during the activity

On-arrival and Mid-term training organized by Slovenian National Agency, all the training organized by host organizations and by other partner organizations from the local community.

Participant profile

Candidates should be motivated, flexible, patient, creative, open-minded, self-initiative, communicative, interested to work with people with special needs and they should be able to speak English. This placement requires some experiences and knowledge from psychology, therapeutic work in pedagogy. Music, arts and craft abilities are especially welcomed, so volunteer should be prepared to lead different workshops from those fields.
