Activity description

Studio ALTA is a multicultural space and a creative hub focused on contemporary dance. ALTA recently moved to a new building, Invalidovna a baroque building close to the city center, in Karlin district. The newly moved studio runs an ALTA ROOM (performance venue), rehearsal rooms for artistic research and creative workshops, community space, ateliers, a café and shared offices. The artistic program of Studio ALTA emphasizes courageous and innovative pieces that encourage engagement, creativity, sharing, and an open minded and constructive dialogue. The theatre is closed during summer, so can have a look behind the curtain and see what ordinary visitors cannot. The aim of the workcamp is to participate in the operation of the centre. In this workcamp, you are actively working for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal of Sustainable Cities and Communities (UN SDG11).

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

In Prague-Holesovice, accommodation will be arranged in the rehearsal place of Studio ALTA (in the old premises) – please, bring your own mat, a sleeping bag and a pillow. 1-2 showers and 2 toilets are available. In Invalidovna (in Prague-Karlin where you will work), there will be an improvised kitchen where you can cook. You will prepare meals together as a group. There will be also be one common dinner prepared by the local partner to get to know each other.

Training during the activity

You will help with a festival Nulty bod (Point Zero) with organization at the festival, production work consisting of guiding visitors, cultivation of indoor and outdoor spaces, physical work: renovation of garden furniture, work in the garden, moving items, help in a cafe or its beautification, help with cleaning the premises. Work gloves and tools will be provided. Transport to the place of work will be by public transport or on bikes. Bring some comfortable working clothes which can get dirty or damaged. The work is not physically demanding or complicated, any DIY skills are welcome.

Participant profile

Look behind the scenes and learn what is necessary to run a theatre, studios and the entire community center. You will have an excursion of the historical Invalidovna building. You can join the program of Nulty bod festival. In case of interest a movement lesson with an ALTA member. A guided tour around Prague can be arranged as well. This workcamp is mainly for people who are interested in culture and arts. We welcome responsible, skillful and independent people, who can sensitively combine work and fun. We prefer communicative and courageous people who can easily fit into new environments.
