Activity description

Young people are among the groups most affected by the economic and social crisis triggered by the Covid 19 pandemic. All of this is strongly amplified in areas of Europe where social and economic hardship was already strong and significant. Young people, especially those from marginalized areas, increasingly need opportunities to engage in solidarity and community support activities, while acquiring skills that are useful for their personal, educational, social, civic and professional development, thus improving their employability. We aim to develop individual volunteering activities in areas with strong social and economic hardship, where young people with fewer opportunities will will be the main target, to whom we are offering opportunities for personal and professional growth in a perspective of social justice and solidarity.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Il Paguro Youth Hostel, where volunteers will be living, is well located with a train station only five minutes by car and a variety of small local shops and supermarkets nearby. The hostel has all the commodities and it is fully prepared to receive all kinds of people comprising people with small or non-mobility.. On the first floor we have the working space, the common living area and the kitchen, fully equipped and adapted for shared use. On this same floor there is access to our lovely little garden. Food allowance is granted monthly together with pocket money.

Training during the activity

Volunteers will be trained with non-formal education principles about facilitation, intercultural learning, communication and social media management.

Participant profile

Young People aged 18-30 with an interest in disadvantaged areas and youth at risk of marginalisation, due to social and economical barriers, including the lack of access to good education and work opportunities. Given the context we highly appreciate young people who are committed to make an impact and who wants to understand more about the criminal influence in the South of Italy beyond stereotypes. Considering the nature of the activities, knowledge of Italian, experiences with non-formal education, working with minors and event planning are considered a plus.
