Activity description

We are a non-profit association called Grup Balear d'Ornitologia i Defensa de la Naturalesa (GOB) working in the Balearic Islands. Our section is based on the island of Menorca and we have several areas of work with a small team. This position covers an opportunity within our established Agricultural Land Stewardship programme (Custòdia Agrària), agreements between farms and our not-for-profit towards sustainable agricultural practices. We run volunteering sessions, product promotion, workshops, assist agricultural consultancy, communication materials and social media presence... It involves office time and field-work support with farmers and volunteers as well as additional support in communication and social media tasks for the programme and GOB more generally. You will be part of a small but dedicated team, covering many tasks related to running the programme and supporting the not-for-profit.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

You will be provided with shared accommodation with another CES volunteer near the GOB office. You will be provided with a bicycle and can apply for a bus pass if you wish. You will receive monthly living allowance to cover your living and food expenses.

Training during the activity

Volunteers will receive a training session on arrival covering introduction to the organization and the tasks to be carried out and will be accompanied throughout their voluntary experience. Additionally, GOB runs several workshops and training opportunities on environmental matters which are open to attend. The opportunity includes a language course (included within the EVS programme) which volunteers are offered at the Official School for Adults. Depending on the volunteer’s Spanish language level, there is also the possibility of learning Catalan.

Participant profile

An medium to advanced level of Spanish is required to be able to communicate with the supervisors and staff. A valid driving license is valued as it would be necessary for many of the organization’s activities. We value an interest in sustainable agriculture, agroecology, land stewardship models, communications, graphic design, photography… but overall a positive, proactive attitude and motivation to learn.
