Volunteering in schools in Slovenia

Activity description

A volunteering activity is carried out in a primary schools in Slovenia. Long-term goal of the activity is to build the foundation for children and youth so they have the same opportunities in education and in sociaty. Participant are welcome for one year to actively work with immigrant children and children with learning difficulties. The main goal is to help children in schools, to make them aware of importants of education and to raise environmental awareness. Volunteers will participate in the organization of cultural events in schools and in youth center. They will have the opportunity to implement their own projects with the support of mentors in school and in youth center.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Accommodation is provided by the hosting organization and it meets basic standards of safety, cleanliness, and comfort. They will shared house with other volunteers. They will have their own room. Volunteers are provided with a food allowance to cover their food expences during their volunteering period. The hosting organization is responsible for arranging transportation for ESC volunteers related to their volunteering activities. This may include transport to and from the project site, as well as any necessary local transportation for project-related tasks or events.

Training during the activity

The ESC requires the volunteer to follow language courses on the platform created for this purpose. There are English courses or courses in the language of the country where volunteer is working. There are two mandatory training courses, one on arrival (On-Arrival training) and one during the volunteer period (Mid-Term Training), both organized by the National Agency. There are various training courses offered by the Salto platform which concern multiple fields of action. Volunteer must complete a Youthpass certification with the help of mentor.

Participant profile

Participants must be motivated to work in schools and have to enjoy working with children. They have to be open to diversity of children. Another important feature is empathetic engagement and maturity. The volunteer must be respectful in all circumstances. Open and accepting of others. Ready for challenges and self-initiative. They are interested in environmental issues and especially likes to learn new ways of using digital tools. The level of education is not important and in the selection of the candidate will be made by the enthusiasm and desire to participate in our project activity.
