In a team of 12 volunteers you will take care of our orchard, and your tasks will include cleaning, painting, collecting and harvesting the fruits and vegetatbles as well as to plow and prepare the soil for the next year. You will also learn how to make your own bread and cook Portuguese Traditional food. This process will be accompanied by a series of workshops about the different policies and initiatives at a local and European Level on agriculture and sustainability, including renewable energies.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The "Quinta Shalom" Located in the Rural Area of Cajados, in the Palmela Council is an example of Sustainability and Circular Economy. Fully Powered by Solar Energy, it grows the food that is used to prepare meals for our children in Kindergarten. The Accomodation counts on 2 big rooms with independent bathrooms and showers which can host up to 38 people in bunk beds. The Quinta includes a Kitchen and a big open space indoors and outdoors for your daily meals, as well as a barbeque for the weekends. Finally, our Quinta has a big pool with salt water, ideal for relaxing during your free time.

Training during the activity

During the month of the activity we will organize weekly visits to local initiatives about sustainability, mainly in the Council of Setúbal, Including the Salines, the Sado Natural Reserve, the Arrábida Natural Park and the Community Orchards of the City Council. We will have workshops organized by external experts about sustainability and the importance of ecological practices, the new agriculture trends, the "Bio" Product Labels and the different EU initiatives on agriculture, including the Common Agriculture Policy and how can the youth act to prevent climate change.
