Activity description

Project is divided into three parts: INTEGRATION, KNOWLEDGE, ACTION. During 14 days in Poland together with other participants you will work in two community gardens, organise culinary events for the local community, support a garden run by orphans from Ukraine, and participate in a traditional polish harvest festival. During the project, we will discuss topics such as sustainable agriculture, permaculture, activation of the local community, community building. Through this program we will provide theoretical input as well as practical hands-on activities which will equip the participants with knowledge about Urban Farming and how it is linked to a healthy lifestyle and building a community. Participants will also gain new skills and competences useful for their personal and social development, such as intercultural and team skills. Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Together with other participants, you will be accommodated in the student dormitory of the Gdańsk University of Technology. We offer rooms for 2-3 people with shared infrastructure (kitchen, bathrooms). There are bars and restaurants nearby, as well as grocery stores. You will also receive a volunteer ID for free public transport in Gdańsk. You will receive pocket money and food allowance according to the ESC guidebook. Travel to the countryside will be provided.

Training during the activity

As part of the proposed activities, you will learn the theoretical assumptions of setting up a community garden on the example of Gdańsk and selected cities in Poland. During the workshop, you will integrate with other participants, as well as meet experts and practitioners who will show you various aspects of social gardening. You will also learn how to care not only about the garden but also community that stands for. The knowledge will be presented by selected experts in their fields.

Participant profile

We are searching for someone who can work in a team. Our projects are generally open to young people who want to become volunteers in the 18-30 age range. Previous work experience and qualifications may be useful but not necessary. We are looking for proactive, motivated, empathic, creative with good communicational skills. You should also be keen to work with different target groups of our organization like youth and seniors. You do not need to have any experience abroad. The call is open for 1x volunteer from Belgium, 1x Italy, 1x from Germany and 7 volunteers based in Poland.
