Volunteering Team - sport and wellbeing across Sicily

Associazione InformaGiovani

Palermo, Italy

Activity description

“Cursa di Ciclopi” (https://cursadiciclopi.com/en/the-race/) is the first edition of a big sport event, a 500km race, involving international runners across Sicily (50 municipalities, 8 villages, 4 regional parks, etc). The event is a unique opportunity to give visibility and promote the revitalisation of internal areas of the region with a clear approach toward the preservation of the environment and the natural resources and the promotion of local economy. Volunteers will support the organisation of the event, and tasks may include: course tracking, support to the logistics; preparation and management of the “Life Bases” where the runners stop for rest (arranging the spaces, cooking, cleaning); support to the Information point; support to the runners (refreshments along the route and in the finish area; delivery of bibs and bags; linguistic mediation); photos and/or videos for promotion. Volunteers shall organise a public moment to raise awareness on healthy life-style.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The activity will be itinerant, in line with the race stages. Volunteers should be ready to experience different locations and accommodation styles: on the first days they will be hosted in a scout camp in Palermo. Then, they will be lodged in one or more of the so-called “Life Bases” along the race itinerary: conditions will be basic and will require high spirit of adaptation (common mixed rooms, cots, mattress). Volunteers should bring their own sleeping bag. Food will be provided by the organisation and cooked by the volunteers in charge of the kitchen of the of the “Life bases". No Wi-fi.
