Activity description

Medicos del Mundo has extensive experience in interventions focusing on the universal right to health, human rights-based gender and special attention to vulnerable groups. The volunteer will be based in the cities of Cobija (in the department of Pando) and San Ignacio de Velasco (in the dpt. of Santa Cruz), and will be under the direct supervision of the Country Coordination and the Base Coordinations. He/she will be in charge of assisting the local teams in the health area, specifically sexual and reproductive health, as well as in the identification and design of new projects, supporting the monitoring and evaluation of the projects that are currently being implemented. He/she will be in charge of strengthening technical-clinical and primary health care capacities, after identification and planning with the grassroots coordinating bodies. According to identified requirements, this process may be extended to public health system officials,as well as to local technicians.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The volunteer will reside in the cities of Cobija and San Ignacio de Velasco, where the regional offices of MdM are located, from where, according to the established schedule, he/she will travel to the intervention area of the projects under implementation. Accommodation; return flights; visa and vaccination costs; health insurance; and basic equipment (laptops and telephone) will be provided during deployment. Transportation and accommodation will be provided for all work-related travel. You will also receive a monthly allowance of 600 € for your personal expenses.

Training during the activity

Volunteers will improve their professional knowledge through training in humanitarian action, and specific issues on security, gender, psychosocial support... and will be provided with training resources to continue their learning. Those selected will receive briefings/training at MdM headquarters in Madrid with the different departments related to the mission and the position, as well as mandatory online training on environmental issues before they start their field work. Training sessions will take place both in the countries of the supporting organisations and in of the host organisation.

Participant profile

- Training in medicine, complementary in public health (highly valued). - Experience in the implementation of projects in primary health care, sexual and reproductive health, prevention of teenage pregnancy and prevention of gender-based violence. As well as the application of approaches: the right to health, gender based on human rights, interculturality and social participation. - Experience in training of health personnel and implementation of health promotion strategies. - Experience in the field of international cooperation. - Contextual knowledge (Bolivia) will be valued
