ongo Community Development Association [KoCDA] is a community-based organisation in West Africa, Ghana, precisely in Kongo of the Upper East region. KoCDA is a community-based organisation committed to improving the lives of orphan children and youth in schools in the Nabdam District. Established in 2009, KoCDA has pioneered a unique humanitarian-based approach partnering with NGO Mondo that focuses on quality education, life skills, health, gender equality, child protection and building peaceful communities. With programming in other communities in Nabdam besides Kongo, KoCDA transforms the lives of children, particularly girls who are dropping out of school and facing difficulties with reproductive health. KoCDA advocates with parents, schools local communities, and the Nabdam District Assembly to advance the fundamental rights of all children particularly with respect to a lot of girls being school dropouts, facing difficulties with reproductive health.Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
The volunteers will be hosted at the guest house, with titled lockable rooms, toilet, shower, and ceiling fans in each room. There is running water and electricity. Volunteers can prepare their own food in the kitchen, equipped with a refrigerator. The Guest house is 5 minutes’ walk from the village centre. Mobile phone service is reliable, there is good mobile internet access. Regular local buses travel to the region's capital, Bolgatanga (30-min drive). There is a market at Kongo and small kiosks also open daily. The ICT centre of KoCDA is 7 minutes’ walk away from the Guest House.Training during the activity
Opportunity to be actively engaged in direct community work with schools, students, teachers, Nabdam Education directorate, particularly the Gender Desk. Support the process of how gender contributes to changing the lives of individuals in Northern Ghana and the possibility to contribute to that process. Possibility to collaborate with KoCDA and other relevant actors in the gender space in mutual learning and exchanging of good practises. Getting practical experience of development cooperation by supporting Mondo and KoCDA’s joint gender support programme for girls .Participant profile
A degree in gender and development studies or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience. Two years’ experience in programme management, including a minimum of one year practical gender programme management experience. Track record in capacity building in gender equality. Experience in M&E. Demonstrated working knowledge of integrating gender equality into development programming. Facilitation, negotiation and networking skills including facilitating change, innovation, initiating action and capacity building excellent editorial skills.Activity dates
