Become a Leader for International Workcamps in- and outside of Berlin!

Vereinigung junger Freiwilliger .e.V

Berlin, Germany

The application deadline has passed.

Activity description

You and a second volunteer will be supporting our workcamps as camp leaders during the season. As a camp leader you are staying at different locations in East Germany with changing international groups for the time period of 2 - 3 weeks for each camp. The work will include the following tasks: preparation of free time activities, the guidance of the camp participants regarding working and organizational issues as well as the communication with project partners, mediation, and the financial responsibility for the workcamps. You are responsible for the workcamp and a focal point between volunteers, project partners and VJF. Between the workcamps you will support our office in Berlin with different tasks as coordination, documentation, promotion, and evaluation of the running projects. Also you will be learning more about the processes behind the curtains of a German NGO on the topic of volunteering work. Our office is located in Berlin Weißensee at Antonplatz.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The two volunteers will live together in a house outside of Berlin. Each volunteer will have his/her own room, with a shared bathroom and kitchen. The place is located remotely in a forested area. The train ride to the city center takes about 1 hour. A monthly pass for the public transport in Berlin is included. Money for food (9,00 €/ day; about 270 € per month) as well as pocket money will be provided on a monthly basis (6 €/day; about 180 € per month) according to the guidelines of the ESC.

Training during the activity

During the ESC, the volunteers will be able to improve their skills and competences with the workcamp leader training seminar. Furthermore, you are going to attend one or two (depending on availability) mandatory seminars in different German cities to reflect on their learning progress. The seminars are great opportunities to meet other volunteers from all around Europe working in Germany. A mentor will facilitate the learning process and support you with any upcoming challenges during the volunteering period at VJF. You can also attend German classes during the last phase of your stay with us

Participant profile

The focus is on your personal development and the interest to learn and improve your German. However, it is important that the volunteers have very good English skills and at least basic German skills A2. Working at VJF requires a great teamwork spirit as well as the ability to work independently. Experiences in (intercultural) work camps are highly appreciated. In addition, knowledge in MS Office, picture or graphic editing, photography, movie-making or visual arts are an asset. You are an open minded, curious, adventurous and social person? Then apply for the ESC volunteering program at VJF !
