Montessori-Kinderhaus im IBZ

Berlin-Wilmersdorf, Germany

The application deadline has passed.

Activity description

The Montessori–Kinderhaus IBZ is located in Berlin–Wilmersdorf and up to 30 children are taken care of. Wilmersdorf is a district of Berlin with a lot of bus- and train connections to the center of Berlin. We welcome children from 1 year up to 6 years from different cultures; the group operates bilingually in English and German. The international staff gives the children a daily intercultural insight. Children and teachers have a close relationship characterized by trust, shared experiences, and intensive communication. The volunteers accompany the teachers and educators in their daily work. Typical tasks of volunteers can be: - Caretaking of the children - Supervising children and accompanying them while they play, reading books to them - Accompanying events or excursions to the forest, sports hall or other places - Initiating little projects with the children - Accompanying the morning or lunch circle - Kitchen work (e.g. preparing food, washing up after meal)

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Volunteers are accommodated in a furnished and fully equipped single apartment in the district of Berlin Wannsee. Internet access and a washing machine are available in the apartment. The daily travel time to work might be up to one hour (per direction) by train, because Berlin is a long distance city. Volunteers receive a monthly pass for public transportation (bus, streetcar, subway and train) and a monthly pocket money of 180 €. Volunteers can participate in lunch at the facility. In addition, volunteers are paid a monthly meal allowance, including during vacation days (around 250 €).

Training during the activity

The volunteers will receive at least one German language course and additionally the online language course via the online system. The volunteers get the possibility to take part in the meetings of the team and will also have meetings only with the tutor on a regular basis. For the service in this oganisation it is necessary that the volunteers have a training in food hygiene. It will be conducted by the local health office. Moreover, volunteers will take part in two seminars, conducted by the German National Agency (one during the first weeks of the project and one in the middle).

Participant profile

The motivation of the volunteer to do a voluntary service and work with children is the most important criteria in selecting the volunteers. Other criteria might be: - very good English language skills (B2/C1), since the children are bilingual - basic knowledge of the German language is an advantage, but not mandatory - desirable: initial experience in the field of education Since 2021, it is obligatory that people working in kindergardens in Germany have a measles immunisation. If you do´t have it, please be prepared to get the vaccination soon after your arrival in Germany.
