Description
This mission is taking place in Institution Sainte-Marie les Maristes, a school in La Seyne-sur-Mer, a village next to the sea in the department of the "Var", next to Toulon, in the South of France. The school is private and under contract with the French state, which means student can have a religious component added to the curricula if they wish. The purpose of your role is really to be in contact with the students and support the cultural activities carried out in the establishment but also carry out actions in a more autonomous way in connection with the teachers. Some projects will be proposed to you at the beginning and by the time you get familiar with the students and the teachers, you can propose your participation in other missions of interest for you. It can be exhibitions, assistance in the design of plays, artistic activities, creation of musical groups...depending on your tastes or skills ! Your mission will allow you to make visites, outings or school trips in France.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
You will arrive first in Marseille for a gathering with other volunteers. You will then be welcomed by a member of the team at the train station in La Seyne sur mer. On arrival, you will be given the contact details of your referents to be contacted in case of problems. You will have a single room with shower and internet access. The school will take care of your meals during the week. You will have to be autonomous for the weekend meals but will have pocket money from ESC programme, and a kitchen/washing machine at your disposal. The city centre is served by all necessary means of transport.
Training during the activity
You will be hosted with a 1/2 day gathering with 3 other volunteers, then will assist to a gathering with all the PACA region ESC volunteers to meet your pairs. We will take the time to meet and explain your rights, your mission, the contacts persons, before going to the high school. During the school year, you'll be able to attend maximum 2 training weeks with the French national agency (one at the beginning of the school year and one towards the middle). Within the school, you will be able to attend French classes and any other classes you wish.
Participant profile
We are looking for a volunteer that would be mainly interested in arts, drama, poetry, music…! Anything but a will to learn and share. Of course, living in a high school you need to be ready to spend most of your time with teachers and teenagers. We also wish you to be ready to share your European personal experience with the pupils to inform them of the many opportunities Europe has for each and everyone. You'll be with other young people from all around the world, working as a language assistant in the school too.
