Support and Promote nature conservation volunteering

INTERNATIONALE BEGEGNUNG IN GEMEINSCHAFTSDIENSTEN

STUTTGART, Germany

Description

Since 2022, IBG has had a special focus called "Let's take action for climate protection – active for forests and moors". In order to make our contribution to preserving biodiversity and combating climate change and to enable young people to do the same, we organise a particularly large number of international nature conservation camps - for example to revitalise peatlands. We also try to initiate ecological learning processes in as many projects as possible. To support these international activities in Germany we are looking for a volunteer starting in early 2025 for one year. Concrete tasks will be: • support IBG nature conservation camps in Germany • administrative support in the office in Stuttgart • support environmental education activities and/or trainings for leaders and volunteers of IBG • support the development of materials and tools for volunteers and leaders in our nature conservation camps • support the promotion of these activities. Own ideas are welcome!

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

You will be based in Stuttgart, accommodation will be provided. As part of the project you will travel from time to time to other places in Germany to promote volunteering or to support projects. Of course this transport will be covered, as the local transport between the accommodation and the office of IBG. For food you will get a daily budget - during trainings and other projects food will be provided.

Training during the activity

Beside of the standard on-arrival-training and mid-term-evaluation for ESC volunteers, IBG offers additional training opportunities like international group leader training or a training on specific themes like inlcusion or environmental awareness in workcamps. In addition, the IBG team will provide introductions to different topics and organisational aspects. The aim is that you get to know how IBG (and maybe other German NGOs in a similar field) is structured, where challenges are and how we try to develop our organisation. The kind and volume of these sessions depend on your interest.

Participant profile

We are looking for a volunteer starting between 10/2025 and 03/2026 for a volunteering duration of 8-12 months. If you are interested, we can arrange a trial period of 2-6 weeks in September/October 2025, during which we can get to know each other and you can learn about our projects. Afterwards, we can decide together whether it is a good fit. Requirements: • It is essential to bring interest and some knowledge in nature conservation and/or in environmental education. • It is essential to bring first-hand experience in international work camps or other volunteering activities. • B-level in English and German • Drivers’ license would be very helpful • Be prepared to do a lot of travelling in southern Germany and regularly spend several days or weeks on projects outside Stuttgart. Urgent need for support in a project can also arise at very short notice, so you need to be very flexible. Your benefits: The project gives you a behind-the-scenes look at how international NGOs work together and what work is required to organise international volunteering projects. You will be active in both - international volunteering and nature conservation. You will work with and learn from experts and committed young people in both areas. You can try things out, take responsibility and develop your own ideas for communicating ecological backgrounds. It will be your contribution preserving biodiversity and combatting climate change.
