Nocrich, Sibiu, Romania

Description

The project will help the community of Nocrich village, Transylvania, to overcome: discrimination among children & youth, school dropout, and the pollution in the area. Volunteers, with the help of a multicultural team, will offer non-formal educational activities, will be involved in local projects, and work on their personal & professional growth. To mitigate discrimination, we’ll have scout activities with kids from various social and ethnic groups. To prevent early school dropout, we help children with the basics of the school curriculum in a fun way and also improve their foreign language and social skills through after school activities. Regarding nature, we are teaching kids to love and protect plants and animals and respect the environment. At the same time, we aim to develop the abilities of the volunteers by involving them in creating educational activities and managing a social entrepreneurship (Ceramica de Nocrich, a pottery workshop of the Nocrich Scout Centre).

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Accommodation:takes place at the 2 village houses with yards, in Nocrich. Both have big bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, modern facilities, running water, gas, electricity, and Wi-Fi. Food: the volunteers will get a monthly food allowance. Usually, we go shopping in Sibiu and then cook together, but the volunteers will also have the opportunity to manage their food. Travel: the volunteers will book the tickets from their hometown to Romania, preferably Sibiu. From there, there is a 40 min ride to Nocrich village, by car or bus. We will reimburse the ticket costs according to the distance band.

Training during the activity

The volunteers will have various training opportunities: a 2-weeks induction training on the scout centre's team, mission, vision, values and the community, local visits, first aid, how to use different tools etc. They will also benefit from Reinforced Mentorship to help them grow & they can also plan a personal project to implement during their stay. According to their needs and interests, the volunteers can also partake in other training sessions like: historical restoration, children pedagogy, animation, project writing, gardening etc.
