Activity description

The integrative day care centre "Kita im Weiherwald" is located close to the forest but still close to the city centre. It welcomes 42 children from the age of 1 to 6. The main focus of the day care centre is the inclusive concept, which means that handicapped and non-handicapped children are part of the group. It is important that the volunteer is interested in the concept of social inclusion and to work with children with disabilities. The concept of the kindergarten is to support the children individually depending on their abilities. A various program for the kidsis offered: working with art and colours, doing sports, experiments and discovering natural sciences, playing theatre or doing handicrafts. Lunch and snack are provided for the childran and for the volunteers. The tasks will be: supporting the educators, helping tidying up after eating and integrating in the professional environment. Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

You will be accommodated in a big house with other 6 international ESC volunteers. You will share kitchen, a yard, 2 bathrooms and a living room, and you will experience a beautiful international community life. You will have your room. You will receive approx. 160 € pocket money and 288 € for food every month. You will also have a card to travel for free in the whole region with public transports during the whole project. Training during the activity

You will take part to two seminars of 5 and 7 days each: these consist in trainings organized by the National Agency, and allow you to meet other ESC volunteers in Germany, share your experiences, learn and talk about the main concepts of the European Solidarity Corps. The meetings take place in different cities in Germany. You also have the possibility to attend a course to become a youth leader, a German language training of 6 weeks, a first aid, climbing and a life guard courses. all of these offers allow you to work with kids and youngsters during your voluntary service and in the future.

Participant profile

• At least 18 years old • Interest in educational work • Interest in the concepts of inclusion and in children with disabilities • Some knowledge of English; basic skills in German would be helpful but aren’t mandatory • having a small pedagogical background • Open to get to know Germany and German culture, sharing an international environment.
