Description

We are offering a volunteering position at Art and Textile workshop Luovilla at Helsinki, Finland. Luovilla workshop offers opportunity for its 12 participants with intellectual disabilities to develop their skills as artisans and artists based on their own strengths. Luovilla's activities are guided by an approach that is based on the participants individual resources and supports creativity, as well as the need to express themselves through crafts or visual expression. Participants practice their professional skills such as craft, textile designer, salesman and visualist as well as everyday life skills. Participants professional and everyday skills are practiced with the assistance of professionals in the cultural and social fields. Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The volunteer will receive every month money for food and gets meals from Lyhty ry. Volunteer will have a room in a shared accommodation with other volunteers. The accommodation will be fully equipped and electricity, water and gas will be covered by the hosting organization. The volunteer works 5 days per week from Monday till Friday, 35h per week. Working hours are 9-16. There is an entitlement to holidays for 2 days per month, altogether holidays days that can be taken after consulting with the Lyhty’s team. Volunteer gets the public transportation card from Lyhty.

Training during the activity

The volunteers will have a mentor working with him/her trough the year. Volunteers will meet other volunteers regularly and will have private meetings with the project coordinator depending on need of each volunteer. In the beginning of the year volunteer needs to do the hygienic card test for alimentation security. We provide organizations own first aid course as well as first aid guidance at workshop. Participant profile

Good social skills and motivation to work with people with intellectual disabilities are important. The work can be dynamic at times and requires such mentality. It is important to have the motivation to learn Finnish language. The participants have learned e.g. the following things: Responsibility, guidance, the field of developmental disability, equality, organization, organization of activities, language skills, cultural knowledge, dignity, resilience to pressure, flexibility, social and health care, cooking, cleaning and housekeeping etc. Interest in and knowledge of crafts is considered an advantage. We are open to all participants but we prior participants with less opportunities meaning people who, for economic, social, cultural, geographical or health reasons, a migrant background, or for reasons such as disability and educational difficulties or for any other reasons have less opportunities. Please let us know in motivation letter if there is any of these in your case.
