Volunteering in a reception center with migrants

Activity description

The social cooperative “FILEF Basilicata”, established in 2016, is carrying out activities committed to promoting integration and social promotion among migrants and the local community. It pursues the general interest of the community in human promotion and the care, assistance and social integration of migrants and refugees by developing a spirit of mutualism and solidarity. The cooperative manages reception centers for adult migrants and for unaccompanied foreign minors in the province of Potenza and of Matera. Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Volunteers do live in double rooms, inside a flat shared with other volunteers in centre of Matera. The flats are between 5 and 10 min walking distance from the city center, and between 10 and 20 min to the hosting organization. The apartments are self-managed by the volunteers who live inside (cleaning, shopping, cooking) and everyone needs to follow the rules. Every volunteer hosted within ESC program receives on a monthly basis pocket money (5€ per day) and food money (155 euro).

We are looking for a motivated, open-minded, tolerant volunteer with a desire to get involved in an intercultural and dynamic environment and help fight against any discrimination, while achieving the integration of the migrants in the local community.
