Johannes brenz Altenpflege gGmbH
Wolfach, Germany
Activity description
The Johannes Brenz care home for old people is in the city of Wolfach. The supporter of this institution is the Johannes Brenz Altenpflege gGmbH. This is a legally independent public charity; it is not for profit. The care and support of residents in the old-age care home is organized by an all-inclusive (mind and body) programme. The newest knowledge is used in the areas of nursing care, medicine, and social aspects. Meeting the individual needs of the residents is a team effort. The residents, family members, doctors and the care specialists all work together. Basic care, treatment care, and social care are all focused on the resident. The nursing specialists work together with social care workers to help the residents. This makes all-inclusive care possible. The use of European Volunteers is mainly for the social care and daytime support of the residents. Volunteers can co-design the daily programme. They are supported by the nursing support staff.Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Volunteers get a single room at the institution or in a separate home nearby. Volunteers get their meals for free at the Brenzheim. Volunteers get a language training from a qualified and state recognized language teacher. Participants get the Deutschlandticket, a monthly ticket for public transportation which is valid in all means of public transportation (except high speed trains) all over Germany.Training during the activity
To decrease problems from the start, volunteers go to important introduction seminars where they'll receive information about the institution and their duties. There is continuous professional support for the volunteers. One example of support is regular reflection talks. A neutral person from outside of the core group will lead these talks. Apart from the compulsory ESC training cycle provided by the National Agency there is also weekly language training at the local adult education center. Volunteers get the opportunity to visit regional education and recruting fairs.Participant profile
This project is only for young people with less opportunities in terms of education (= without bachelor/master degree, even not studying at the university). Volunteers should like working with elderly/disabled people. Past experience in working with elderly/disabled people is helpful. Volunteers should be able to individually design activities. A basic or beginner level of the German language would be helpful, an interest in learning German is expected. A Class B car driver’s licence is an asset. Volunteers should write a ‘project-related motivation letter’.Activity dates
