Description

Care and working centre Toncka Hocevar is a social welfare institution. We offer different programs and services for adults with intellectual and co-occurring disabilities. First program is oriented to ensure suitable work occupation for adults with special needs. We organize different forms of occupations in 6 different units in Ljubljana. Each unit has a team of mentors (professional worker or occupational therapist), a guardian and a work mentor. In second program we offer institucional care inside residential homes. Beside the occupation and living, we organize numerous other activities that are offered to our users: we take trips, attend events and various institutions. We are also active in the field of sports, attending competitions under the organisation of the Special Olympics. We are looking for two volunteers who will be involved in all activities. The main task of the volunteers will be the organization of leisure activities and health maintenance activities.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

- Volunteer will live in single bedroom in student apartment in Ljubljana with other volunteer or students, near our centre. Kitchen, bathroom and laundry facility will be shared with other volunteers or students. - Volunteer while working gets meal and eats with other workers. - Volunteer gets monthly bus ticket for transport in Ljubljana.

Training during the activity

The volunteer will participate in the training opportunities offered by the Slovenian nacional agency: on arrival traning, mid-term traning. They will also receive specific training in the hosting organization related to the target group they will work with.

Participant profile

We are looking for volunteers who are eager to gain experience in working with adults with intellectual disabilities and who want to gain experience in creating employment programs for people with special needs. Volunteer should be open-minded, communicative, creative, self-motivated and proactive. It is desired to have handwork skills or other talents (dancing, cooking, music, sport). Volunteer should like to work with adults with special needs.
