Pedagogic farm based on equine assisted interventions + social service

AEDEQ, Asociación Española De Equinoterapias

Serrateix, Spain

The application deadline has passed.

Activity description

We run a 16 hectares pedagogic farm, based on animal/equine assisted education and therapies, in a beautiful valley, surrounded by forest, in Spain. AEDEQ mission is to research and diffuse best practices in the field of equine/animal assisted activities, to protect, take care, and train animals without violence, and to enjoy the love and care relationship with them. With the help of volunteers, WE ARE BUILDING A NEW RESEARCH TEAM. They will learn how to communicate with, and manage, without coercion, a herd of horses in freedom; how to train and employ them as partners in providing services for people with special needs; and how to produce vegetables for their own consumption. This is an excellent opportunity for volunteers engaged in physical work with horses, lovers of the outdoors, nature and animals and with an inclination to help people with disabilities or fewer opportunities.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

• Volunteers will share a flat in a nearby village (1 double + 2 single rooms, fully equipped), or an accommodation in our farm in the forest, at 20/25 minutes driving from the closest village: (1 double + 1 single room, fully equipped, but with the need of saving energy, water, etc.). Either in the flat or in the farm, rooms might be shared for short periods. • Weekly food shopping with the coordinator, who will pay, or food allowance. Cooking by turns. • AEDEQ will take care of the transportation from flat to farm, by car.

Training during the activity

• Long term training in horse handling and farming -orchard. Gardening, agriculture and environmental protection. • First aid training. • Boccia assistant training. • On-arrival training (with National Agency). • Mid term training/evaluation (with National Agency).
