Activity description

Le Cleu Saint-Joseph is a Catholic Secondary School for 750 pupils aged between 11 and 14 years old. The school is proud to be open to all pupils. This is why we have special classes (called SEGPA section) for youngsters who have some difficulties to learn at school, and we host some handicapped children (physical handicap, cognitive / learning difficulties) on an individual integration process or on a collective process into the School Inclusion Unit (ULIS). During the volunteering mission, the volunteer will discover the French school system, develop a cultural opening and knowledge about Europe, learn to be a group leader (and especially with teenagers), and to work in a team. The volunteer will have numerous opportunities to develop professional skills such as project management, communication in different languages, use of new technologies, … The volunteer will also be able to develop his/her own personal project, according to his personal tastes and skills.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The volunteer will share a furnished flat with the other European volunteers hosted in Redon, or with French people. The flat is 10 mn walk from Le Cleu. Everyone has his own single bedroom and bathroom, and the 3 flatmates have to share the kitchen and the toilets. LA MAPAR will pay a food allocation of 7,50€/day to the volunteer for the meals. The volunteer will be able to cook at home in his/her flat. Pocket Money The volunteer will receive 8,00 € / day for pocket money. The volunteer will have the possibility to rent a bike for 5,00 € / month COVERED by LA MAPAR.

Training during the activity

The volunteer will take French classes during all his project, 2 hours a week + 1 hour every week for collective mentoring. The French classes are given by a specialized teacher, together for all the volunteers at the same time. The teacher adapts his lessons to the level of each volunteer.

Participant profile

The volunteer should be interested in discovering the French school system pedagogy, and the school system. The volunteer will have to be enthusiastic, with a strong sense of initiative and empathy, maturity to face a public of teenagers with less opportunities. Some basis of French would be appreciated.The candidate should be motivated to take part in team work with a public of teenagers (11-15 years old), including ones facing difficulties (handicap, learning difficulties).The ideal candidate will be autonomous and ready to question, ask and propose, and willing to learn how to lead groups.
