Description
Join our vibrant school community and make a meaningful impact on the lives of over 100 children with disabilities, aged 3 to 20 years in elementary, and secondary school levels. You have a crucial role in supporting teaching staff and children in classroom and sports activities. Your responsibilities include assisting during mealtimes and breaks, preparing classrooms for engaging activities, welcoming the kids every morning, as well as helping with classroom activities. During the school holidays, you will help with holiday programs at the Youth Farm with the animals and outdoor activities. Our enthusiastic team is keen to welcome individuals who can bring creativity into the learning environment and effortlessly connect with both children and staff. An open and engaging attitude towards children of all ages is essential. If you bring expertise in music, art or sports your skills will be very welcome as part of our dedicated team, making a positive impact every day.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
A fully furnished apartment is provided locally and fully paid by Johannes Diakonie Mosbach. Full board (288€) and the volunteer allowance (180€) is paid monthly direct to your German bank account. A ticket for local and national transport (Deutschlandticket) is also paid by Johannes Diakonie. Schwarzach is a small town on the edge of the Odenwald region and close to Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Heidelberg for travelling through Germany and Europe. Schwarzach is an excellent choice if you love the outdoors.
Training during the activity
Arrival and mid-term training through the National Agency. On-the-job training at the location. Events arranged for all volunteers by Johannes Diakonie, including regular online meetings with the coordinator. Free German language courses provided during the year. Youthpass at the end of the volunteer period.
Participant profile
Experience of working with or helping people with special needs // Empathy, team-player, sense of responsibility // Reliable and punctual // Creativity and openness // Sharing activities and skills (eg. music, crafts, sports, walks). Ideally A2-B1 German and/or English language skills and be willing to learn German quickly // A heart for connecting with children with disabilities and animals and be passionate about enriching their lives and improving their health. Preference given to candidates who send a relevant motivation statement for the opportunity. Start Sept 2024 or later
