LET'S CREATE A SENSORY PATH : INCLUSION AND INTERACTION !

Concordia Centre-Val de Loire

Gien, France

Activity description

Take part in the construction of a sensory pathway at the Foyer d'accueil médicalisé (FAM) La Fontaine in Gien (45), which provides permanent accommodation for people with disabilities. As well as the technical aspects, this project will be a great human experience, as you will be living in contact with the residents and will have the opportunity to share moments together. This work camp is part of a project to develop the outside areas requested by the ADAPEI 45 association, which administers the site. The new facility will help residents to develop their relationship with the outside environment in all its dimensions, as well as improving their self-confidence and motor skills. Your job will be to carry out the preparatory work (laying out the ground), build a vast wooden structure, and then install the various elements making up the sensory trail, to the delight of the residents and care assistants living on site all year round.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

You will be hosted directly in the site. You will have an individual tent outside. An indoor area will also be available for you to organise activities or retreat in case of bad weather. You will have access to sanitary facilities and showers. A kitchen will also allow you to prepare your meals. In collaboration with the animation team, you will participate to the shopping and to the cooking. Following an eco-friendly approach, you will be invited to use local and seasonal products. A washing machine or laundromat will be available from time to time (preferably allow 3 weeks for laundry).

Training during the activity

-Construction and Landscaping: You will gain practical skills in outdoor construction and landscaping, including ground preparation, wooden structure building, and installing elements for the sensory trail. -Collaboration and Communication: Working as a team with other volunteers and residents will help you develop communication and collaboration skills, learning to work effectively with diverse individuals.

Participant profile

We are seeking volunteers who demonstrate empathy and open-mindedness towards people living with disabilities, but also who enjoy working in a team, value cultural diversity, and are willing to share their own experiences while learning from others.
