The power of together

National Park Meinweg

STICHTING INTERNATIONALE WERKKAMPEN

Naturschutzstation Haus Wildenrath

Wegberg, Germany

Description

The Meinweg is a beautiful piece of nature of approx 1800 hectares. It is located in the easternmost corner of Central Limburg and is enclosed on three sides through Germany. The name "Meinweg" originated from the Celtic word "gemeyne", which means "together". It was the "Gemeinde Weide" of the 14 villages that controlled and used the area. Now there are 6 of these villages in the Netherlands and 8 villages in Germany. The Meinweg National Park is of great significance geologically, due to the terraced landscape that is unique for the Netherlands, with three steep transitions between the various terraces. These were created by erosion of the sediments deposited in the distant past by Rijn and Maas and by shifts in the earth's crust. Volunteers will be working on several options: 1. Environmental activities in the National Park de Meinweg 2. Restorational activities at the environmental protection station Haus Wildenrath 3. Promotion of the national Meinweg and the Grenspark.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Accomodation will be in the environmental protection station Haus Wildenrath. It has two dorms, one for men, one for women. Field beds are available, you can bring your own sleeping mat or airbed as well as sleepingbag. There is a meeting room and kitchen available. Cooking and cleaning are planned and done independently within the group. Each participant is expected to take part in the CCC (cooking-cleaning-crew).
