Activity description

Special social care home "Tremtinių namai" is a modern institution the purpose of which is to assure the long-term social care of fully or partially dependent elderly people and to ensure secure and dignified aging. Preference to be accommodated is given to the exiles. Exiles are Lithuanians who were forcefully repatriated to labour camps and Gulags (prison camps) in Siberia by Soviet government. At the moment we have 80 people, aged 66-100. "Tremtinių namai" is located in Vilnius city in a peaceful place surrounded by a beautiful forest and the river Neris, you can reach it with a public transport. "Tremtiniu Namai" maintains an active bond with the local community: with a centre for Art and Education as well as with the people living in the surrounding area. NOTE: for this opportunity we are able to host only residents of EU countries.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The volunteer will be hosted in flat together with other volunteers in Vilnius. Each volunteer will have their own room. A monthly bus card will be provided. Volunteers will receive food and pocket money every month. Nevertheless, volunteer will have people who will take care of them during the project: tutor (person in hosting organizaion), mentor (personal support) and project coordinator.

Training during the activity

The volunteer will have an integration week organised by coordinting organisation. During the volunteery service, volunterers will also have On-Arrival and Mid Term trainings organised by National Agency. Supporting organization will provide pre-departure and last evaluation sessions for volunteer too.
