Project description

Our Foundation works with adult mentally disabled people. It operates two main services, one is the therapy- and work-related daycare centre, the other is living opportunity for the clients in a residental house. The key words describing our work is normalising, autonomy, acceptance. We would like to host volunteers, who are openminded, treat people equally, strife against prejudism. The project focuses mainly to help our clients improve their skills, their knowledge through leisure activities. We would like therefore to host one volunteer in our Daycare Centre and one volunteer in the Residental Home. We organise many integrated projects with students from gymnasiums and universities of Pécs.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

We rent a 3 rooms apartmant near the centre of the city of Pécs, where the volunteers can live. Every month we give altogether 35.000 ft. for food, what the volunteer can spend for food and other products, she/he needs. Things for the apartmant the Foundation can supply, also other things once in awhile. The volunteer gets mobile phone with simcard, but mainly use for work (with limited internet access). We provide buspass for use to travel around the city. There is a bycicle, which can be used by the volunteer also.

Training during the project

The sending organisation organises training for the volunteer before she/he leaves. The receiving organisation have meetings and discussions after arrival to make sure the volunteer understands everything about the program and the project. The volunteer is asked to participate on arrival meeting and halfway meeting organised and implemented by the National Agency of Hungary. If possible, we like our volunteers to participate other trainings also, and even training after going home, when the project ends.

Volunteer profile

We would like our volunteers to be openminded and socially sensitive. We work with adult mentally disabled people, who are some ways act differently as "normal" people. Sometimes they don't look so nice. On the other hand they feel, if people don't accept them. We would like, that the volunteer would be capable of accepting our clients and treat them, as they would treat any other persons without disability. We don't await the volunteer to have experience from this field, but we would like, that she/he would be willing to learn from our professional helpers.
