Project description

CATAPA is a social and environmental movement working on the impact of mining, with a focus on Latin America. We support partner organisations in Peru, Colombia and Bolivia and conduct awareness raising activities and research in Belgium. We are looking for two EVS (European Volunteer Service) volunteers to support the CATAPA movement, and in particular our current Make ICT Fair project. You will mainly be working in our office team (3 part-time staff + 2 EVS + variable number of interns) which supports the movement. Since CATAPA is a volunteer movement, you will be working in close collaboration with volunteers. Tasks will focus on organising awareness raising and training activities for a variety of target groups, help organising our international speakers tour, volunteer management, writing of articles, supporting volunteers activities, support in some administrative tasks in office. The tasks are flexible depending on your learning goals and the needs of the organisation.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

CATAPA will actively assist the volunteer in finding accommodation in the city. The EVS volunteers will be offered a monthly fee of 707 euro to cover accommodation and daily expenses. As well as covering the travel costs from the volunteer's home country to Belgium including return (beginning and end of project), CATAPA will cover all travel costs incurred as a result of the volunteer's participation in CATAPA's activities. On top of that, CATAPA offers 1 language course (Dutch, English or Spanish) .

Training during the project

The volunteer will participate in CATAPA's 'change makers' programme, involving two training weekends. Our working groups also set up training evenings based on other volunteers' requests. Previous training evenings have covered 'how to write an article'; 'how to add subtitles to a video', 'how to speak in public'. There are several ad hoc training opportunities which might come up and in which the volunteer can participate. Importantly, there are a lot of learning opportunities within the day to day work of the volunteer.
