Description
In this project we are looking for 10-15 volunteers from different countries to work in a volunteering team for three weeks. The project is hosted by and organised in Youth Centre Piispala that is in the rural Northern Central Finland. Project takes place 10/11/2025-30/11/2025. Theme of the project is to boost the community spirit in Piispala by decorating, painting and doing small improvements at the centre. The volunteers will organise events for the local community to increase solidarity and togetherness. The volunteers will paint one of the accommodation spaces that is used by customers. Participating volunteers will learn project skills, develop their interpersonal skills and practical skills. We want the volunteers to learn about different cultures and make new connections with other volunteers. Volunteers will work 5 days a week, 7 hours per day (9-16). There might be some occasional work on the weekends and evenings.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
The volunteers will stay at the Youth Centre Piispala in a shared accommodation, 2-3 people/room. Four meals per day are prepared by the Piispala’s kitchen and served either in the accommodation or in the cafeteria. A charter bus will pick up all the participants from the Jyväskylä Travel Centre. All participants must arrive in Jyväskylä on 10 November by 20:00. If the volunteer can’t make it to the bus, they will have to arrange their travel to Piispala on their own. There is no public transportation to and from Piispala.
Training during the activity
During the first week of the project the volunteers will take part in an on-arrival training that supports the group building and dynamics. They will also learn about the youth centres in Finland and about their principles. Volunteers will get to know the facilities and the staff at the centre. In the beginning the main objectives, the schedule and volunteers’ roles and responsibilities in the project will be presented.
Participant profile
We are looking for motivated young people who are eager to take part in the project. We welcome applicants from different backgrounds, such as people of different genders, abilities and members of different language, cultural or minority groups. The participant should be aged 18-30 years old. We welcome all participants to apply who are interested. Language of the volunteering project is English and the volunteers should have good enough English skills. In this project the volunteers can benefit from being open-minded, social and creative person but we welcome applications from different types of people with different backgrounds. No specific skills are required from the volunteers. Participant should be interested in working outdoors, being surrounded by nature, have a creative mindset and be able to work as a part of a group. We select participants based on their motivation letters and CV’s. We prefer applicants who have little or few previous experience in European Solidarity Corps projects.
