Activity description

Pi Youth Association is searching for 2 youth volunteers to participate in Artcoop: Youth art cooperation is a Humanitarian Aid ESC project that involves a total of 6 young people from Spain (2), Italy (2) and Turkey (2) in the development of socio-educational and artistic activities addressed to local communities in Chile. Volunteers will join and support for 6 month the community development activities that TECHO Internacional (hosting organisation) carries out at the different slums and marginalized areas where it works around Chile. The principal activities will be developed through communitary art to develop empowerment within the community living on shanty towns around Santiago de Chile. The aims will be achieved by supporting TECHO Internacional on its own socio-educational and artistic projects with youth, throughout which youth mental health is addressed. Volunteers will design and develop an artistic project that they will carry out during the whole project.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The project includes accommodation, food and transport for the volunteers. Volunteers will accommodate on TECHO installations prepared for youth volunteers that works with the entity. This accommodation, as transportation and food are covered by ESC Aid fundings and the contribution of sending organization. Volunteers will stay on the same location during all volunteering periods; from the first day of their volunteer they will have accommodation prepared. Visa is also included for the time of volunteering.

Training during the activity

Participatory observation during the analysis phase of the project by volunteers and workers from TECHO. Creation of promotion group with all the agents of the project and community, to plan together the program and the activities. Develop different artistic activities on TECHO’s socio-educational program (educational, capacitive and sustainability). Regular activities with the community, and the support and follow-up by tutors. Common evaluation through promoting group, of the activities developed.

Participant profile

Volunteers has to be interested on developing artistic and communicatory skills, working with excluded communities to empower their identity. It is valued to have knowledge in socio-educational field and non-formal education skills. It is also important to have a vocation on social themes. It is valued the participation in social projects with excluded communities, youth and population. It is important for the youth to have interests related to exclusion, human rights vulneration and motivation to learn about social realities and community art methodologies to work on empowerment.
