DiscoverEU is to expand in 2027: six new countries to join the journey

The European Commission is to extend DiscoverEU participation in 2027 to Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro and Ukraine.

In 2027, DiscoverEU is to open a new chapter by welcoming 18-year-olds from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro and Ukraine. This expansion will give more young people the chance to explore Europe, mainly by rail and other sustainable transport such as coaches or ferries, while building unforgettable memories and friendships across borders.

Eligible young people from these countries will be able to apply for travel passes and begin a journey that brings them closer to Europe’s cultures, languages and communities. DiscoverEU is more than a trip: it is an opportunity to learn, share experiences and gain confidence through cultural exchange and independent travel.

Sustainability remains at the heart of the initiative. By encouraging travel by train, DiscoverEU promotes greener ways of discovering Europe and helps participants make more environmentally conscious choices.

By extending DiscoverEU to these six partners, the European Commission is working to strengthen European connections, solidarity and mutual understanding among the next generation.
