Juvenes Translatores Awards Ceremony

Last updated on Tuesday, 15/06/2021

On 18 June, an online award ceremony will take place to congratulate the winners of the contest.

This celebration will welcome the 27 winners, their proud parents, teachers and friends to recognise their excellent contributions to the 2020 Juvenes Translatores edition.

At the ceremony, the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will greet the young translators and an experienced Commission translator who will reveal his secret to learning 32 foreign languages.

Due to the online format, their trophies and diplomas have been delivered to the winners’ home addresses.

Be part of the ceremony, watch it live on YouTube live and Facebook live on 18 June at 15.00 Brussels time.

Winners

The winners were selected by the Commission’s translators from among 2 797 participants from schools across Europe. In addition, 248 students received special mentions for outstanding translations. The participants could choose to translate between any two of the EU’s official languages. Of the 552 language combinations available, 150 were used by the young translators.

This year, the one-page texts to translate were titled “Navigating in challenging times – together we are stronger!” and students’ participation became a positive and motivating activity to keep spirits up during lockdown. Indeed, many of the teachers, who supervised the contest either at school or online, expressed their gratitude for the ray of light that the translation contest shed on the gloomy days when many events were being cancelled.
