VIA e.V. - Verein für internationalen und interkulturellen Austausch
Montessori Kinderhaus im IBZ
Berlin, Germany
Description
The Montessori-Kinderhaus in BIZ is in Berlin-Wilmersdorf, connected to the International Center for Academic Exchange. There are about 30 children at the age between 1 and 6 years. The team consists of international staff members with different mother tongues. By bringing the contact with native speakers of English, they are introduced to the foreign language through play. The volunteers accompany the teachers and educators in their daily work. Typical tasks of volunteers can be: - Caretaking of the children - Supervising children and accompanying them while they play, reading books to them - Accompanying events or excursions to the forest, sports hall or other places - Initiating little projects with the children - Accompanying the morning or lunch circle - Kitchen work (e.g. preparing food, washing up after meal)
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Accomodation is provided in a shared apartment, together with two other ESC volunteers. Each of them has an own bedroom, bathroom and kitchen are shared. Your daily travel time to work might be up to one hour (per direction) by train, because Berlin is a large city. You will be provided with a monthly ticket for local public transport. You will receive a monthly payment for grocery shopping (around 250 €) and a monthly pocket money in the amount of 150 €.
Training during the activity
The volunteers will receive at least one German language course and additionally the online language course via the OLS system. The volunteers get the possibility to take part in the meetings of the team and will also have meetings only with the tutor on a regular basis. For the service in this child day care centre it is necessary that the volunteers have a training in hygiene. It will be conducted by the local health office.
Participant profile
The motivation of the volunteer to do a voluntary service and work with children is the most important criteria in selecting the volunteers. Other criteria might be: - very good English language skills (B2/C1), since the children are bilingual - basic knowledge of the German language is an advantage, but no must - desirable: initial experience in the field of education - creative, technical, sports and/or musical skills - since last year, a vaccination against measles is mandatory for people working in kindergartens in Germany
