Description
1.Assisting with needle exchange programme: Volunteers will be fully trained by staff members, inducted and supported to work in the needle exchange where drug users can get new injecting equipment (needles, syringes, water, acid etc.), return used needles for safe disposal, get advice on safer injecting and harm reduction and make HIV and hepatitis tests. 2.Promotional activities - on social networks and events, HELP promotes the rights of people who use drugs and their communities through advocacy to help achieve a world where drug policies and laws contribute to healthier, safer societies 3. Mother language and culture lessons for the locals 4. Clean up Every 2 weeks we organize clean-ups in order to keep our city safer and cleaner. Volunteers and staff members go to the spots where drug users usually gather and they clean the area . Gloves, bio containers and special tools are provided. 5.Development of a personal project
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Accommodation: The volunteer will live in a flat shared with the other volunteers. The flat is 10 minutes walk from the city center, close to Bacvice beach, 2 minutes from the office. Rooms are shared with one more same sex person. There will be clear rules to house-living in order to guarantee the best experience for everyone and ensure cleaning schedules and expectations are well met by everyone. - Food : A monthly food allowance will be given in weekly portions to the volunteer. Transport: no need for the public transport, everything is in a walking distance
Training during the activity
- Training courses : Volunteer will participate in pre-departure provided by their sending organizations and on-arrival training, and mid-term evaluation organized by NA. HELP will have organized different training courses and workshops for local/international youth during a year. All volunteers will be trained in harm reduction. Croatian language and culture lessons will be provided
Participant profile
The volunteer should be an active participant and planner of their own tasks, open to intercultural dialogue and able to collaborate with other young people and adults in activities of promoting values of solidarity and respect of differences. Preferences will be given to longterm unemployed people. We want to see and summarize in these points: -willingness to share the flat and room with other volunteers -respect of the house rules - Willingness to work in a team - Language skills are not necessary, we prefer basic English; - Experience in previous projects is not necessary.
