Description
We transform traditional farm homestead into energetic selfsufficient house and maintain surrounded land, meadows and orchards according to perma-culture principles including singnificant manufacturing possibilities. Situated in beautiful mountain landscape of national protected area České středohoří. We focus on those topic: 1 hand-crafts - wood work, carpentry, joinery and music instruments crafting, building of structures, maintenance of homestead, rebuilding, redesign, energy-saving technologies. 2 gardening - creating and maintenance of vegetable and herbal gardens, fruit orchards, seed harvesting and food preservation. 3 community and culture - organizing health-excercises (yoga) and local choir singing folksongs, public workshops and culture events either at NGO center or in the village. Team work with other volunteers and visitors, organizing activities during team volunteering.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
The participants will live together in one farm household, sharing responsibilities for the place and plants. Each long-term volunteer will be accommodated in the house, where are two single rooms and big atic. Every day we cook for everybody lunch, and we care about our food-bank. We buy from local sources or organic food, most of the time we provide vegan.
Training during the activity
- how to design and manage resilient small-scale farm systems with annual and perennial plants, composting - how to bake bread, preserve food for the winter, managing community food-bank. - how to care and maintain a healthy cultural landscape based on Permaculture principles (scything, small-scale animal husbandry, landscaping, plant guilds, integrated forest gardening, herb use) - wood processing, didgeridoo manufacture, carpentery, lime-plastering, wood carving. - metal processing - mindfullness, team communication
Participant profile
Generally, the volunteer is expected to be open-minded, empathetic and curious about people passing via our NGO and be enthusiastic ecologist keen to learn more about organic farming, self-sufficient way of farming and keeping household and experience way of life in the countryside. The knowledge of basic English is required. Any craft skills are very welcomed, as well as communication skills. However, the staff of Spolek Hvozd will provide every volunteer with full support in order to ensure that the volunteer overcomes all kinds of difficulties. In the end volunteer organize his working day and cooperate with others.
