Nibble Stiftelsen

Nibble Stiftelsen

Järna, Sweden

Description

Nibble Stiftelsen runs different operations and activities. A central factor is the “Järna Naturbruks-gymnasium”. This is a 3 year high school offering a training program for green professions. Students participate in practical work in all areas. An important part of the school is the boarding school. The school/farm staff are international, with 7 countries represented. Nibble Farm is situated on the banks of the Baltic in a beautiful landscape. Activities at Nibble include, among others: -Nibble Handelsträdgård, a market garden and small holding with three hectares of fields, animals as well as green houses and shops. -Nibble Skog and Såg, forestry and a small scale saw mill. At Nibble we practice reality-based farming, gardening and more. We do this in the context of a training and education program. We collaborate with other local organisations and businesses with the goal of strengthening the local community and its resilience in a time of dramatic changes.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Volunteers will have their own room in a special two room appartment on the farm. 3 meals a day are served weekdays during the school year. Volunteers will have access to their own kitchen for weekends and school holidays. Food is available from on site stocks, the farmshop and an allowance for purchases in town. Bicycles are provided and there is easy access to public transport (Stockholm appr 1,5 hrs). A car is available for special cases.

Training during the activity

Training will largely take place in the context of the practical work in which the volunteers participate. Weekly and daily meetings with the responsible on site will have a focus on learning and understanding. Taking part in the daily life on the farm, garden, with the animals and not least the boarding school will hopefully enable them to see the complexity of life and nature but also how everything within a farm organism is interrelated. Volunteers will be given the opportunity to participate in courses both on and off the site.

Participant profile

Volunteers at Nibble should have an interest in agriculture (and related areas), environmental and social educational issues. Any experience in practical work, especially in green professions is a definite plus but not necessary, Volonteers should be open, curious and willing to do practical work, even in uncomfortable situations. Willingness to listen and learn from more experienced people is a plus. An interest in working with teenagers is important. Some flexibility is good, many people and activities can lead to plans being changed. A basic command of English is important.
