Werkstattschule e.V.

Heidelberg, Germany

Description

WERKstattSCHULE e.V. is a non-profit youth educational provider in Heidelberg. The association was initially created in order to compensate the lack of link between formal and practical education for the youngsters. As a volunteer, you will mostly be assigned to the school projects, specifically wood carving workshops, since this technique is easy to learn and apply. You will instruct and assist a group of 4-5 pupils. The work will be dusty and your clothes will get dirty with wood and paint. No special skills are required. However, we are looking for volunteers who have the desire to develop or enhance their handcraft skills. Furthermore, you should like to be creative and to get in touch with people from other countries and cultures. The project weeks are designed to help the pupils discover and promote their talents as well as extend their skills and competencies. This way, we provide targeted occupational orientation to the pupils. www.werkstattschule-international.eu

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

You will live in a shared apartment in a housing project named Hagebutze, 15 minutes by bicycle from the city center. Your will have your own room but share the common areas (living room, bathroom and kitchen) with two other volunteers. We usually have mixed flat-sharing communities with men and women. We have towels, bedsheets and all the kitchen stuff. We also have free internet access. You will get pocket money and food allowance according to the actual ESC guideline. You will get a bicycle for your daily way to work and tickets for public transport on request.

Training during the activity

You will have 1-2 seminars included in the ESC programm organized by the German National Agency. One at the beginning and one in the middle of your stay. You will get language support during your ESC with a private teacher and you can use the ESC language learning programm EU-Academy. It will not be a full German language class and your progress will depend on your motivation. You will get handcraft workshops f.e.wood craft, sculpting and carving, screen printing.
