SLOW DOWN, WE LOVE YOU! People with learning disabilities have the gift to help people to slow down. They can love people unconditional. What happens if a young volunteer shares his life with these wise people? A miracle. De Ark Vlaanderen (www.ark.vlaanderen) is a community for people with learning disabilities. As ESC-project we invite young people to connect with people with disabilities by sharing meals, having fun together, playing games, working together,… We are part of an international netwerk of L’Arche-communities (www.larche.org). We are looking for 3 new volunteers from September 2023 (a little later is also possible) for the communities in Gent and Antwerp. °Be a volunteer for one year at L’Arche Flanders (Ghent or Antwerp) °Change your heart and your life through the relationships with people with learning disabilities °Free volunteering year offered by European Solidarity Corps, funding program from the European Union

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

You live in one of the houses of De Ark. You have your own room, the rest is shared with the other housememebers. You can cook yourself with the ingredients we shop for you or you can eat with us. In the community of Gent are also living 2 students. In the community of Antwerp is already 1 ESC-volunteer living in the house.

Training during the activity

University of life :-): ● A life-changing experience ● Personal mentoring ● Trainings for young volunteers in L’Arche projects in Flanders & Holland ● Free intensive language course and private language training. If you want, we can organise an online Dutch language course for you before you arrive at L’Arche ● Advanced visit is possible ● Family and friends are welcome for a visit during the year

Participant profile

● You are between 18 and 30 years old ● You like to live in a community ● You love to make friends with people who are different than you ● You don’t need a special education or degree in social work of pedagogics ● You speak English or French and you are willing to learn Dutch ● Because of the language, we ask you to stay at least 9 months
