Description

The school is located in the neighbourhood of Friedenau district. There is a good mix of people with high, medium and low incomes as well as people with and without a migration background. In addition to traditional lessons, the school specialises in Music and Social learning. The volunteer will work in a team with a group of secondary school teachers and educators. He/she and his/her team will supervise children from different classes (1st and 2nd grade, 3rd grade or 4th-6th grade), in different buildings located on the school campus. The day consists of three parts and the volunteer will work in all three parts of the day: 1. assistance with classroom work 2. lunch break (help the children in the canteen) 3. free time for the children with indoor and outdoor games, sports, projects (art, chess, yoga, table tennis, gardening), homework... Opportunity to create own projects with the children and to participate to participate in weekly team meetings...

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The project is part of a bigger project coordinated by the German volunteering organisation "ijgd" with all together 18-20 volunteers in different social projects in Berlin. The European volunteers live in different shared flats together (everyone has an own room, kitchen and bathroom will be shared). So there is a group of European Volunteers in different social projects. It also includes the travel budget to and from Berlin, free public transport in Berlin and Brandenburg, language support, etc.

Training during the activity

The training during the voluntary service includes 2 ESC seminars (organised by the German National Agency), meetings with the fellow volunteers, workshops, etc. and a Kick-Off Seminar (1 week) with ijgd to get to know the volunteer group, ijgd and life in Berlin.

Participant profile

Experience in social work beneficial. Tasks are: - Teaching assistance and homework assistance, accompanying the children in their learning process, motivating children with different learning material - Assisting the team at lunch time, preparing the tables, taking care of the children - Playing board games, preparing creative offers - Playing outside with the children: e.g. basketball, football, jumping rope… - Possibility for realising own ideas of projects - Great: German knowledge, real motivation to learn German. Live in a flat with other Volunteers. Interested in Berlin/Germany
