Description
BASIDA, a non-profit, charitable and welfare association, declared of Public Utility, has been working since 1990 through its Shelter Houses, with the general objective of providing free shelter and care from a biopsychosocial point of view for people with serious social and health problems, who are in a situation of social exclusion, providing them with comprehensive, personalised and interdisciplinary care and assistance based on quality. The profile of the people assisted at BASIDA has diversified and nowadays, we attend to chronically ill people, people with addiction problems - mainly to alcohol, drugs and other substances, elderly people with dementia and chronic illnesses that require specialised and continuous care that their families cannot provide, former prisoners on parole due to serious and incurable illnesses and families in a situation of vulnerability or social exclusion. The project includes courses o acquire technical knowledge and skills for the residents
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
The 12ha. house is 9 km from the centre of Aranjuez, 47 km from Madrid, has adequate facilities for the proper development of its projects: buildings for residents, volunteers, offices, plus a multi-sports court with football, tennis, volleyball and basketball courts, a swimming pool, a chapel-oratory, gardens, children's playground, gymnasium and cultivation field. Long-term volunteers are offered a shared double room with en-suite bathroom in a two-storey building.On the ground floor there is a laundry-cum-cloakroom-cum-sewing room, and a multi-purpose room for games, rehabilitation gym
Training during the activity
Volunteers will be trainned to carry out the following activities: - Care for sick and bedridden people. - Support in physical rehabilitation and occupational therapy activities for cognitive rehabilitation - Participation in workshops (carpentry, gardening, painting, etc.) - Participation in the educational department: adult literacy workshop, after-school support - Organisation of workshops and occupational activities: magazine, theatre, computer, yoga and relaxation, sports activities, etc. - Organisation of workshops and leisure time activities (excursions, cultural activities, etc)
Participant profile
This is a Long Term Porject for no less than 6 months, preferably one year. The characteristics of the volunteers who collaborate in our organisation are as follows: People of either sex, from different European countries and of any culture, race or religion. People with a minimum level of maturity, sensitised and interested in learning about the problems posed by HIV/AIDS and drug addiction, and in sharing experiences with these groups. They should also be motivated to learn or improve their language skills and get to know Spanish culture. People with no specific training or profession. People capable of complying with the dynamics and rules of coexistence (they will not be able to consume drugs, including tobacco and alcohol).
