Fairtrade Lëtzebuerg is the Luxembourgish Fairtrade labelling association, founded in 1992, member of the Fairtrade International organization (www.fairtrade.net), supported by over 30 member associations from charity, environmental, social and religious movements. Our aim is raising awareness of the Luxembourgish population towards social conditions of producers in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. 3 activity fields within our project named “Fairtrade, the new normal”: 1.pedagogical projects: participative workshops for children and youngsters in schools, day-care facilities and youth association’s homes. 2.assistance to various awareness campaigns, fairs and markets where we explain Fairtrade principles to people of any age groups, organization of press conferences and cultural projects. 3.office-based activities: drafting, publication and regular up-date of Fairtrade Lëtzebuerg’ newsletters, social media (Facebook, Instagram) and other daily news related activities.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Accommodation is free of charge for the volunteer. It is a room in a living community shared with other volunteers at 2, rue de Wecker in L-6832 Betzdorf. Phone +352 719 319 9810. A food allowance and pocket money is paid monthly to the volunteer’s bank account. As it is a lump sum, the volunteer is not obliged to deliver any justification. Public transport is free of charge in Luxembourg. Travel to Luxembourg is organized by mutual agreement between the volunteer and the hosting organisation, prepaid by the volunteer and reimbursed upon receipt by the hosting organisation.

Training during the activity

Mentoring and support upon arrival and during the entire voluntary service are provided by the director, the office staff and the external mentor/tutor. To prevent any project related crisis, the volunteers meet regularly with the director of Fairtrade Lëtzebuerg and the team. Various in-house trainings are provided by the director and the office staff. The volunteers usually start each new project in a team and are always assisted by the supervisor and the office staff. The volunteer’s personal well-being is assured by the tutor/mentor, whom they meet personally regularly.

Participant profile

!!The volunteer must speak/understand German!! Motivation to work independently, be open minded towards people from all over Europe and have an idea about voluntary service (wanting to help, making new experiences). Eager to learn something new in a multilingual environment in Luxembourg. Basic interest in fair trade and in North–South relations in general is useful. French knowledge is helpful, but not a requirement.Our volunteer activities apply to all age ranges (18-30 years). We also strongly encourage the application of more mature candidates (age 25 or above).
