Description

Target group of this project are students in a rural folk high school where the volunteer will co-organise activities such as various leisure time workshops related to for example arts, languages, cooking, sports, music, games and other topics depending on the skills and interests of the volunteer and the students. About half of the students in the folk high schools are from immigrant origin.The students attend different courses and degrees, some join for short term courses, some stay a full year. The students are mainly young adults (17-30 yrs). The working language will be mainly English; therefore it is important that the volunteer speaks English in sufficient level. There will also occassionally be other tasks and chores like assisting tasks in other fields such as maintenance and support services and co-leading international visiting groups of students and volunteers. In summer months the volunteer will co-lead international voluntary camps in the school..

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Volunteer will stay at the student dormitory in a double room. There are about 150 residents at the school. The school offers breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week, so the volunteer has all the meals prepared. The school has excellent facilities. The school is located by a lake in beautiful rural area in eastern part of Finland in a town called Punkaharju. Punkaharju has excellent train connections to Helsinki and other cities in Finland.

Training during the activity

The volunteer will participate in the on arrival training and mid term evaluation organised by the Finnish National Agency. It is possible to study Finnish language culture in the school as well as in various workshops during the year. Participant profile

We are looking for young sociable person willing to be actively involved in the indoor and outdoor activities of the project located in the Finnish countryside. The volunteer should be motivated to learn, to adapt, to propose ideas, take initiative and open to discover other cultures and work in a multicultural environment. He/she should be motivated to develop personal skills such as communication and team work skills.
