VOLUNTARY SERVICE OF ARMENIA - REPUBLICAN HEADQUARTERS OF STUDENT BRIGADES NGO

Dzer Gitake

Yerevan, Armenia

Description

Dzer Gitake kindergarten provides creative, social, intellectual, physical learning with a self- developed program for children from 3 to 6 years old, who are getting ready to live out of family environment for a short time, to build up new social relationships, as well as to be prepared for school. The quantity of children is 50-70. The volunteer will participate and assist the staff in a variety of activities offered to develop the skills and abilities of the children, such as giving language lessons, teaching them new games and songs, organizing fun events and adding new colors to the childrens’ lives. The volunteer should be creative, full of ideas and initiative. The volunteer will learn to work children with fewer opportunities, develop his/her organisational skills, working in a team, as the project usually hosts 1-2 volunteers. The project is organised by the support of the HUJ-Voluntary Service of Armenia. The duration of the project is 8-12 months.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The volunteers will be provided with convenient accommodation: the dormitory of a university in Yerevan, near the city center, featuring same-gendered rooms with two occupants each, shared bathroom, and a spacious kitchen. This cozy dormitory is equipped with all necessities and ensures safety. Approximately 19 long-term HUJ volunteers from different European countries reside in the dormitory. On the first of each month, volunteers receive a monthly allowance, sent by HUJ to their bank cards, covering their pocket money, food, transportation, and internet expenses.

Training during the activity

Upon the volunteer's arrival at the airport, they will receive a warm welcome by HUJ. Following this, an introductory meeting will be held at the HUJ office, where the organizational staff will formally greet the volunteers and assist in essential procedures for their stay in Yerevan (obtaining an Armenian phone number, a physical bank card, and arranging a meeting with their assigned mentor). During their mobility in Yerevan, volunteers will engage in two training sessions - an on-arrival and a mid-term training - organized by SALTO in Georgia.

Participant profile

There are no gender restrictions regarding the selection/recruitment of volunteers. As per the ESC guide, the age of the volunteer should range from 18-30. The volunteer should be interested or have some experience in working with children; he/she should be enthusiastic, responsible, respectful, thoughtful and reliable.
