Description

The present individual volunteering is part of the ECHAV project - Empower vulnerable Communities through HumAid Volunteers.CIVS Kenya - Center for International Voluntary Service, runs a wide range of volunteering projects including teaching, childcare, environmental protection, agricultural work, healthcare and supporting people with disabilities. Volunteers will work full-time (between 30 and 38 hours per week) and will have two days off per week. TASKS: 1.Teaching basic subjects such as English, drawing and creative arts for children,2.Organization of recreational activities for children,3.Support in providing balanced meals and in cleaning/maintenance of equipment used by children,4.Organization of ITC technology courses for young people to increase knowledge and employability,5.Capacity building trainings in schools and in other social places for local communities on environmental conservation methods, 6.Working in the center’s Model Farm to help improve farming techniques.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Volunteers’ accommodation will be at the Ahero Resource Center. There will be separate female and male rooms to be shared. Three daily meals will be provided by cooks and volunteers will assist them preparing food in shifts. Typical Kenyan food includes rice, ugali, chapatti, beans, and vegetables/fruits. Meat, sadines and/or eggs are also available for those who want to eat them. The closest city is Kisumu, the largest urban center of Kisumu County and the third-largest city in Kenya, which is one hour by car. Airport pick up upon arrival & drop off will be covered by the program.

Training during the activity

Volunteers will receive complementary insurance coverage and will have access to a range of support services, including language support and training.

Participant profile

Citizens aged 18-35 from one of the 27 EU member countries or citizens legally residing in one of the countries associated with the program (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Turkey and the Republic of North Macedonia). Volunteers should be motivated and willing to adapt to the new culture, new food and environment, and to follow the safety guidelines that they will receive.
