Description
The volunteer will be based in Nouakchott and will contribute to: Support USPEC (the Special Care Unit for Victims of Gender-Based Violence) teams - gender health officers, social and psychosocial workers and midwives - in the psychosocial care of victims of gender-based violence; Psychosocial support: emotional relief interviews, psychological first aid, discussion groups, support to victims' families; Organisation of teamwork ; - Compliance with ethical principles relating to care (beneficence, non-discrimination, protection); Identify training and support needs of the teams and provide ad hoc training to meet these needs; As part of the multidisciplinary team and in collaboration with the gender medical coordinator, participate in case management, in particular the management of complex cases; Identify teams' training and support needs, and provide ad hoc training to meet them; Improve current MHPSS protocols and tools; Provide training (‘in room’ / ‘in situ’) for teams.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
The work will take place at the MdM Mauritania office in Nouakchott. The volunteer will then be accommodated in the organisation's guesthouse. It is a quiet city, with several beaches, the general atmosphere in Nouakchott is good. However, it is recommended to be careful when travelling. The restaurants are identified to allow the volunteers to have a varied diet and to eat in good hygienic conditions. The volunteer will receive a monthly allowance of 534 € to cover their food and other expenses.
Training during the activity
Volunteers will improve their professional knowledge through training in humanitarian action, and specific issues on security, gender, psychosocial support and will be provided with training resources to continue their learning. Those selected will receive briefings/training at MdM headquarters in Madrid with the different departments related to the mission and the position, as well as mandatory online trainings before they start their field work. Training sessions will take place both in the countries of the support and host organisations.
Participant profile
Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work; Significant certification/experience in adult training: tutoring, training supervision, course facilitation; Proven experience in caring for people in distress, in particular victims of sexual violence; Demonstrated interest in the issue of violence against women and girls, health law and human rights; Experience of working in a multicultural context; Teamwork and resilience to stress; Office package; Fluency in French essential, Good level of Spanish and English. Knowledge of Arabic is an asset.
