Description

ASPEm fights poverty and inequality promoting inclusive and sustainable societies. The volunteer will contribute to activities by managing food waste in Lima and promoting food recovery through the circular economy, including the implementation of community kitchens. The activities include: Developing accompaniment plans for vulnerable people, adapted to the nutritional and social needs of local communities; Developing and expanding existing projects; Assisting municipal members in good food practices and supporting pastoral agents in the field; Providing logistical support to community kitchens in Huaycán ensuring quality and nutrition standards; Participating in Manthoc managing food recovery and a canteen for vulnerable youth, ensuring proper storage and distribution. The volunteer will work 35 hours per week, with 2 rest days per month. They will dedicate 2-3 days to field activities and the rest in the office, planning and supervising projects and participating in key events.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

ASPEm provides accommodation with single rooms in a residence near its office, located in a well-connected residential area, with access to public transportation to various points in the city. The apartment includes a living room, dining room, kitchen, bathrooms, internet, and all basic services such as electricity and water. Additionally, there are supermarkets, gyms, and cultural spaces nearby. Regarding food, the area has shops, supermarkets, and restaurants offering affordable menus, including options for vegetarians and vegans.

Training during the activity

During the project, the volunteer will receive training on key topics such as human rights advocacy, interculturality, citizen participation, food, nutrition, education, and social inclusion policies, in public spaces and districts where activities will be carried out. Initial training will be provided to understand the socio-cultural and economic context. The volunteer will improve the following skills: language knowledge, certified by the OLS, and understanding of the humanitarian context of the EU ESC initiative. The skills acquired will be certified through the Youth Pass.

Participant profile

The candidate must possess resilience to work and social dynamics, the ability to interpret and deepen cultural diversity, and a reflective and proactive attitude. An interest in the history of the beneficiary population is crucial. Additionally, valued traits include: teamwork skills, listening and dialogue abilities, and a committed attitude to volunteering. Training or experience in social sciences or nutrition is highly desirable, as this knowledge is essential to analyze and respond to the community's specific needs.
