Description

The project's goal is to promote gender equality and equity through awareness and training of the population. Activities the volunteer will support include: Designing community training modules; Developing curricula and educational materials on gender equality and violence prevention; Supporting workshops in rural communities and training various groups, including authorities and parents; Organizing training on new masculinities and conducting field visits to interact with community leaders; Participating in the strengthening of community care, especially for rural women; Collaborating in commemorative events related to violence prevention; Systematizing cases of empowered women and documenting activities and results; Establishing monitoring for the Equity and Complementarity Policy. The work will be both in office and field, with two days off per month and 35 hours per week typically distributed as follows: 8 hours daily from Monday to Thursday and 3 hours on Friday.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The volunteer will live in Totonicapán near the municipal building in zone 1, surrounded by services such as markets and pharmacies. The organization covers rent and basic services such as electricity, water, and internet. The house has a single room and kitchen, is located on the second floor, and is 2 km from the office. The volunteer can buy food in local eateries or prepare meals in the kitchen. They can also bring food to the office. Local minibuses facilitate transportation in 15 minutes, and there are taxis and buses.

Training during the activity

Upon joining CDRO, volunteers follow a protocol that includes: introduction to the CDRO team, for integration and support; orientation about CDRO, for explanation of objectives and projects; visit to the communities, to meet direct collaborators. The volunteer will develop skills in: community creation and training; promotion of change and gender equality; civic competencies; intercultural awareness; problem-solving; certified linguistic knowledge; understanding of the EU humanitarian context. Competencies will bw certified by Youth Pass.

Participant profile

It is desirable that the person has training or experience in social work, pedagogy, psychology, gender specialization, or a related field. They should know how to work in a team, listen, have a volunteering attitude, and preferably basic knowledge of Spanish; be responsible, organized, and able to relate to mixed groups in rural communities; know about human rights, gender-based violence prevention, sexual and reproductive rights, empowerment, and new masculinities. The ability to design materials, be proactive, organize events, and use digital tools is valued.
